Streets Reimagined Trial

15 December 2025 - 15 June 2026

Streets Reimagined Trial

The trial is live, there is a six-month period for objections which can be made via our platform AppyWay.

We will consider all feedback submitted during the six months objection period in full, this will help inform the decision on whether the trial becomes permanent. We will provide a clear timeline for sharing your views, ensuring your voice is heard.

Alongside the statutory objection period, we will talk to residents, businesses, and local stakeholders to hear about their experiences with the trial. We want to know if the changes are making it easier, safer, and more enjoyable to walk, wheel, scoot, or cycle on Voltaire Road as well as it being a more enjoyable space to spend time. . If we decide to make changes to the trial based on feedback and monitoring, the six-month period for objections will start again from the day those changes are made. However, the trial will still last for the same total time (18 months maximum).

Monitoring the Trial

We will monitor the trial in relation to the objectives set out for the scheme. The specific objectives and monitoring of the trial are to:

·      Objective: To monitor the objective to increase the proportion of street space available for use by people walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling.

·      Monitoring: By implementing the scheme there will be an increase in space for walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling. Throughout the trial we will monitor how the space is used through engagement, monitoring of data produced by the Vivacity camera and site visits.

·      Objective: Support the local economy through the creation of more space for local business and their customers to operate within, subject to relevant licenses being granted.

·      Monitoring: Throughout the trial we will undertake targeted engagement with local businesses, the BID and work with the collate licencing data from the relevant teams.

·      Objective: Provide a trial environment that enables the collation of both resident, business and other stakeholder feedback based on real-world experience.

·      Monitoring: Undertake targeted and general engagement with residents, businesses and stakeholders throughout the trial period.

·      Objective: Identify any challenges in the space being designated as a pedestrian and cycle zone on permanent basis, in contrast with the temporary approach used for car free days held from Friday afternoons to Sunday evenings in the summers of 2023 to 2025.

·      Monitoring: Throughout the trial we will monitor how the space is used through engagement, monitoring of data produced by the Vivacity camera and site visits.

What happens after the statutory consultation?

After the 6 months of public feedback and trial data are collected, along with input from focused discussions, these will be used to make recommendations to the Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport, Environment, and Clean Air.

Within 18 months of the experimental traffic order starting, a decision will be made about whether the changes from the Streets Reimagined trial will stay or be removed.

The Cabinet Member will make the final decision about the future of the scheme, and a report explaining the decision and recommendations will be shared during or after the trial.
