About the Fund

The THINC Brixton & Peckham Fund has £400,000 in total funding – with £200,000 available for projects in Brixton.

This fund was created so that local people can shape how charitable money is spent. The community decides who gets the funding, which means your friends, neighbours, and supporters will be able to vote for your project and help bring it to life.

ClearView Research and the Community Board will carry out a sifting stage to check that applications meet the eligibility criteria. Any that do not meet the criteria will be rejected before the community voting stage.

The project will run 8 interactive workshops plus 1:1 mentoring for 100 young people (16–24), building budgeting, saving, and debt management skills, credit cards and more. This will reduce stress, improve wellbeing, and create fairer opportunities for the youth. Funding covers facilitators, venues, resources, and outreach, tackling proven local gaps in youth financial education.

For priority and non-priority communities, of all ages and all abilities. Our users requested longer and more frequent sessions, so we extended our sessions at The Advocacy Academy from 1.5 to 3.5 hours. We also added an additional session at The Akerman Health Centre, as requested by parents with school children. We have evolved into a Games Club with Sudoku, Word Searches, Colouring – whatever our users requested. We had a Rangoli workshop for Diwali this month. Our Connect-4 Relay was a hit! Board games can be particularly helpful in supporting children with learning difficulties or ADHD. The structured environment, clear rules and often visual nature of board games can help children with ADHD focus, develop impulse control, and improve executive functions. For children with learning difficulties, games offer a multi-sensory and engaging way to practice academic skills without the pressure of traditional drills.A study published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders found that the use of board games significantly improved social skills in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.We are villagers creating a village. Cooking, Baking and eating together: Fun, healthy eating workshops for parents and children, teaching teamwork, nutrition, and independence. This funding will enable us to work intensively with 24 households currently living in temporary accommodation and help them to secure long term homes.• What will your project deliver?This project, Brixton Pathway to Homes will combine personalised casework with tenancy skills training.We will provide: One-to-one housing support to help clients understand their housing rights, access private housing, social tenancies and develop tenancy-readiness skills. Tailored action plans focused on budgeting, income maximisation and digital confidence (including managing Universal Credit and searching for homes online). Regular training on employability and navigating the housing system, this will build both confidence and peer support networks. Post move-on support to break the cycle of homelessness. Our goal is to see at least 75% of participants progress into sustainable accommodation or demonstrate clear readiness to move on.• Which groups or communities is your project intended to support?The project will support constituents of Brixton who are: Living in temporary accommodation or at risk of homelessness. Often single parents, young adults or individuals from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds groups can suffer housing inequality. Facing barriers such as low income, insecure work, mental-health issues and lack of digital access. We will work closely with local partners, including housing officers, Jobcentres, probation officers and community organisations to identify those most in need. • What difference will it make?The need could not be clearer. There are now 127,000+ households in temporary accommodation in England (DLUHC, 2024), including 164,000 children (CIH, 2024). Research from Crisis (2025) shows that over half of people in emergency housing remain there for six months or more, often in poor conditions. These long stays in unsuitable accommodation can damage health and wellbeing.Our project directly tackles this crisis. It will: Empower 24 households to break free from temporary accommodation. It will allow children to maintain extended family support, maintain friendships and improve attainment at school. Improve independence through structured, evidence-based support. Strengthen links between residents, landlords and local services. Reduce the cost of temporary accommodation. Councils are already overspending on temporary accommodation, which now costs over £1.8 billion per year nationally (LSE, 2024). • How will this funding help your community?Homelessness fragments communities.By helping residents transition into secure, stable homes, Forward Horizon creates ripples of positive change and more local engagement.Participants will also be encouraged to teach what they have learned to family and friends and this will help more people to avoid homelessness and leave temporary accommodation.This project aligns with proven national research: evidence from Homeless Link (2024) and NIHR (2023) shows that housing-led and case-managed approaches significantly improve tenancy sustainment and helps break the cycle of homelessness. • Why do you think your project will be a success?Forward Horizon CIC’s leadership team brings 55 years of combined frontline experience in homelessness prevention, housing advice and community mentoring. We have worked within local authorities and voluntary organisations - we are 'insiders' who understand the 'system' and its limitations.We take a housing-led, person-centred approach, blending practical know-how with empathy. Every participant’s journey is unique and outcomes will be will be measured to ensure accountability. We will work with local authorities, housing associations and local agencies for referrals and coordination.• Any other important informationTemporary accommodation should never be a long-term solution, yet many Brixton families spend years in unsuitable housing, sometimes sharing bathrooms with strangers or raising children in single rooms.Our work will help to restore health and well-beingThis £15,000 investment will achieve tangible impacts for 24 households. Jennifer McDermott10 months ago Roots and Wings was born out of unimaginable loss and a profound commitment to healing. On 26 October 2001, my daughter Cassandra aged 19 was tragically murdered. In the wake of this devastating event, I searched for a way to transform grief into purpose. In 2008, we founded this charity in her honour, a living legacy that channels pain into compassion, and remembrance into action.What began as a personal journey of healing has grown into a community-based support programme that empowers minority and marginalised women, especially those who have experienced domestic abuse, trauma, or systemic disadvantage. Roots and Wings is not just a project—it is a testament to resilience, love, and the belief that even in the darkest moments, hope can take flight.Roots and Wings is a community-based support programme designed to tackle health inequalities by empowering minority and marginalised women, particularly those who have experienced domestic abuse, trauma, or systemic disadvantage. We are requesting £45,000 Fund to deliver this vital initiative, which will provide culturally sensitive, trauma-informed services to women facing multiple barriers to wellbeing.The name Roots and Wings reflects our mission: to help women establish strong foundations (“roots”) through safety, stability, and support, while nurturing their ability to grow, heal, and thrive (“wings”) through empowerment, education, and connection. Our work is grounded in compassion, cultural understanding, and lived experience.The project will deliver: Weekly support group sessions facilitated by trained professionals, offering a safe space for healing, peer connection, and emotional resilience. One-to-one therapeutic support tailored to trauma recovery and mental health needs. Healthy food provision at each session, with a focus on nutrition for women managing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and stress-related illness. Empowerment workshops covering confidence-building, financial literacy, navigating public services, and employment readiness. Emergency care packages including food, hygiene essentials, and baby items for women in crisis. Volunteer training for survivors to become peer mentors and community advocates. Our target groups include Black, Asian, and other minority ethnic women, refugee and migrant women, and those living in poverty or experiencing domestic violence. Many of these women are isolated, economically disadvantaged, and underserved by mainstream services. By centring their voices and lived experiences, we will create a safe, inclusive space where healing and empowerment are possible.The difference this project will make is both immediate and long-term. Women will experience reduced isolation, improved mental and physical health, and increased access to vital resources. They will gain confidence, build support networks, and develop the tools to rebuild their lives. By training peer mentors, we will also create a ripple effect—empowering women to support others and strengthening the fabric of our community.This funding will allow us to expand our reach and deepen our impact in Brixton and Peckham. Sessions will improve mental health together with having wider benefits of creating community connections, improving balance and fitness. The funding will allow us to continue with our Wednesday Tai Chi class in 2026 plus will introduce a new choir session giving a full morning package of wellbeing activities for local residents. A termly healthy lunch will also bring our participants together socially through sharing seasonal food. Which group(s) or communities is your project intended to support?Our sessions will support local residents aged 50+ with health conditions, particularly those feeling isolated. We will target residents on low incomes and those with disabilities and long term health conditions from our local diverse communities. Our current activities include our weekly Community Club for people aged 60+ together with Pilates and Tai Chi sessions. Feedback from current sessions demonstrates the need to both continue to fund the Tai Chi session and to introduce a new activity to further benefit our community. Since 2020 our centre has become embedded as a local hub and has a reputation for welcoming in older residents from all our local communities. We also have links with other local networks and GP surgeries enabling us to promote our sessions to those with long term health conditions. Wellbeing at the Windmill (updated project submission 20 Oct)What difference will it make?Our Tai Chi and Choir sessions will improve mental health and wellbeing. Our Tai Chi session is currently funded until December 2025 and has been running for over 2 years. By offering it free of charge we are fully inclusive and feedback demonstrates the important benefits it gives:“Yes! Peace of mind. Increase in joint mobility”“Positive mental attitude. Less joint pain. Healthier in general”“Concentration. Balance. Sense of wellbeing”.We ask our participants about what other activities they would like to do at the centre. “Joining a choir” has been mentioned many times and this project will allow us to set up a new weekly Windmill Voices session. Singing is known to have a range of benefits including improving breathing, posture and muscle tension. Singing has also been shown to increase feelings of happiness and wellbeing and in increasing social bonds. By attending weekly choir sessions our participants will create new networks together with leaving the sessions feeling happier and healthier. How will this funding help your community?We will continue to offer a free weekly Tai Chi class for local residents aged 50+, something we know improves mental health and wellbeing. We will also introduce a new activity for older residents to try, bringing people together through song. Both sessions will include social time with refreshments creating more opportunities for new friendships and connections for people who are sometimes isolated at home. We will also offer a termly healthy lunch for participants.● Why do you think your project will be a success?As an organisation embedded in our local community we know we can reach our target audiences. We also know there is a demand for both sessions we will offer and are confident they will be well attended and will improve the mental health and wellbeing of participants. It tackles mental health and access to healthy choices through creative workshops, cooking, gardening, welfare advice, and BSL sessions. We will support disabled and neurodivergent people, carers, young people leaving care, LGBTQ+ members, families on low incomes and Black and minority ethnic groups, helping reduce loneliness, improve resilience and increase access to healthy foodKatakata CIC has become a trusted anchor for Deaf, disabled, neurodivergent, and marginalised residents in Lambeth. Our impact goes beyond providing food and creative activities; we change lives by reducing isolation, improving well-being, and creating pathways to confidence, employment, and community connection.Our community café and warm space offer affordable, healthy meals and a safe, inclusive environment where people connect across cultures and abilities. For many, its the only space where they can communicate freely in BSL or find understanding for sensory or mental-health needs. Regulars describe the café as “a lifeline” and “a second home.”Through our advice and guidance service, we have supported hundreds of people to successfully access benefits such as PIP, ESA, and housing support, reducing financial stress and preventing homelessness. Our work as part of the Lambeth Advice Network ensures that disabled residents receive fair treatment and representation.We have seen measurable improvements in mental well-being and social confidence. Participants in our creative workshops and open-mic events report increased happiness, reduced loneliness, and greater self-expression. Many go on to volunteer or take up training roles, building personal and professional independence.We also provide inclusive employment and training opportunities, offering supported placements and kitchen or barista training. Several participants with disabilities have progressed to paid roles within Katakata or other local cafés, tangible evidence that our inclusive model works.Beyond individual outcomes, Katakata strengthens community cohesion. Our festivals, open-mic nights, and cultural events bring together people of all backgrounds, challenging stigma and celebrating diversity.examples to show how our approach, combining creativity, empathy, and inclusion, transforms lives . Sarah and Michael – Rebuilding trust and hopeSarah, a single mother from Brixton, was referred to Katakata after her teenage son Michael began showing signs of withdrawal and aggression. Their relationship had broken down, and Michael, who is neurodivergent, had been excluded from school. The family felt isolated and unsupported. our mentors provided one-to-one emotional support, creative workshops, and family mediation sessions. We used art, cooking, and music as ways to rebuild communication and trust. Michael discovered a love for performing at our open-mic nights, using rap to express his feelings. Sarah attended our parenting sessions, learning trauma-informed strategies to support her son without conflict.Over time, the family began to reconnect. Michael started volunteering in the café and re-enrolled in school with improved confidence. Sarah said, “Katakata gave us our family back — they saw us as people, not problems.” This story shows how early intervention and creativity can prevent escalation, rebuild trust, and restore hope within families.Case 2: Amira –Finding belonging and confidenceAmira, a young Deaf woman from Lambeth, felt isolated after leaving college. She struggled to find accessible workplaces where BSL was understood. When she joined our Silence Hands BSL Café, she found a community that embraced Deaf culture and inclusion.Amira began attending creative coffee workshops and BSL sessions where Deaf and hearing people worked side by side. She took part in our barista training programme and quickly developed new skills and confidence. With support from our mentors, Amira applied for part-time employment at another inclusive café and was successful. She now volunteers with Katakata, helping new Deaf participants feel welcome.Amira said, “Before Katakata, I felt invisible. Now I have friends, confidence, and a voice even without speaking.”Our impact is measured not only in numbers but in restored dignity, connection, and self-belief, the foundations of a safer and more inclusive Lambeth.

User 59731310 months ago We are seeking £30,000 to deliver specialist, long-term poetry-based mental health programmes for 140 young Black people in Brixton schools and HMP Brixton through Mandem, Let’s Talk and Galdem, Let’s Talk.Facilitated by our community-led team of young, specialist practitioners, these creative interventions use poetry as a tool for joy, connection, and empowerment. Through culturally responsive workshops, participants explore mental health, identity, culture, community and emotional resilience, while building trusted peer connections that reduce their loneliness, isolation, and anxiety.Working with young people aged 13-16 in schools and 18-30 in prison, we will deliver seven 10-week programmes (4 Mandem, Let’s Talk and 3 Galdem, Let’s Talk), each engaging 20 participants in single-gender spaces designed for safety and belonging. Over the past three years, Mandem, Let’s Talk has engaged 500+ young Black men across Lambeth and Southwark, 70% of whom had never accessed mental health support, and 85% reporting improved ability to manage their health and wellbeing. Galdem, Let’s Talk extends this impact to young Black women, co-created in response to their need for holistic, culturally grounded support.Young Black people continue to face disproportionate exposure to systemic harm, discrimination, and criminalisation, while being less likely to receive appropriate mental health care. Within prisons, over 50% of the population experience poor mental health, and are ten times more likely to experience psychosis. Our programmes offer early intervention, creating spaces of safe vulnerability, connection, and collective care. Poetry provides evidence-based mental health benefits - supporting stress reduction, emotional regulation, and positive behavioural change - helping participants understand their emotions, identify their needs, and develop safe and healthy coping mechanisms. Grounded in community, care, and collective resistance, our spaces empower young people to support one another, creating measurable improvements in wellbeing. While not clinical, these programmes provide a powerful, culturally responsive alternative to traditional services, strengthening resilience and preventing crisis escalation.Our confidence in this programme’s impact is rooted in over a decade of grassroots experience in Brixton. We have delivered Mandem, Let’s Talk and a wide range of creative mental health initiatives, youth employment programmes, and transformative education in schools, youth spaces, and prisons. We have direct experience working alongside 25 schools and most recently, with our Patron George the Poet, in HMP Brixton where we supported participants to develop mental health-focused poetry which was then broadcasted on National Prison Radio. Here, we ensure young people’s voices are amplified, and that upon release, they remain connected to our community for ongoing care, support, and empowerment. Hundreds of young Black people from Brixton have already built confidence, accessed healing, and expressed themselves through poetry and connection in our spaces, with over 85% reporting improvements to their wellbeing, and 90% reporting experiences of joy and connection.

Now, we want to bring that same energy to Brixton through our Empowr Sk8 Skool & Roller Skating Programme — a mix of family roller discos, children’s classes and adult sessions that build confidence, fitness and connection. Movement is medicine — and we’re on a mission to help our communities roll toward better health, happiness and inclusion.Empowr CIC is a Community Interest Company that promotes wellbeing through movement, connection and experiential learning. We’ve delivered hundreds of inclusive roller-skating sessions in Lewisham — from family roller discos to children’s lessons and adult skating classes. Niran Singa10 months ago Carers’ Hub is Lambeth’s dedicated carers charity, commissioned to support adult carers, young carers (5+) and young adult carers. We help people feel less isolated, more confident and better connected to the right help through peer groups, social and wellbeing activities, and one-to-one support. In 2024–25 our adult service supported 1,288 carers, delivered 64 peer groups with 476 attendances and 100 wellbeing activities with 600 attendances. Over the same period, 664 young and young adult carers engaged in 219 activities with 1,361 attendances.We are requesting £50,000 to deliver a Brixton-based programme (January–December 2026) that directly improves mental health and wellbeing for unpaid carers. The project will:1) Establish and run at least three new specialised peer support groups in Brixton (or neighbouring wards) for a 12-month period, targeting communities most at risk of isolation and poor health, such as Black male carers, carers of people with severe mental illness, and older carers living with or supporting someone with multiple long-term conditions. These groups will meet regularly, be facilitated by trained staff, and be co-designed with carers to ensure relevance and accessibility.2) Provide a full year of structured wellbeing activities that offer meaningful breaks from caring. The programme will be shaped by carers themselves and could include Green Therapy sessions (gardening or nature walks in Brockwell Park and nearby spaces), yoga, mindfulness, or accessible physical exercise. Each activity will be designed to reduce stress and anxiety and give carers practical tools to sustain their wellbeing.3 )Fund a part-time Outreach and Engagement Worker to identify and engage unregistered and isolated carers in the Brixton area, building links through community venues, faith spaces and GP practices. This role ensures the project reaches those most in need who may not currently access any support.This work tackles both mental health and wellbeing and health inequalities by combining specialist peer connection, restorative activity, and proactive outreach. Carers consistently tell us our groups and activities help them feel less isolated, listened to and supported by peers. In 2024–25, 65% of participants reported feeling listened to, 63% felt supported by other carers and 63% felt less isolated. Many also report better confidence and reduced stress. Funding will cover staff and sessional delivery, modest venue and materials costs, targeted outreach and light-touch evaluation. It will allow carers to access regular, trusted support close to home throughout 2026.This project builds on our proven record of delivering trusted, high-quality support for carers across Brixton. These activities will allow us to reach over 250 young people through patrol and hub engagement each term, with 20 or more receiving targeted mentoring.The project supports young people aged 11–19 who travel through or live around central Brixton. Many face risks such as— youth violence, robbery, school exclusion, and poor mental health — often intensified by socio-economic stress and limited access to safe recreation. Travelling through Brixton creates both opportunity and vulnerability.We work closely with other community organisations and relevant statutory services to safeguard those most at risk, particularly young people affected by trauma, anxiety, or exposure to exploitation during unsupervised travel.The programme will: Reduce exposure to violence and exploitation through a visible, trusted adult presence. User 25122210 months ago St Vincent’s Brixton recently held an event, It’s a Tea Rave!, to engage older people with socialising and physical activity. The event was a celebration of the International Day of Older Persons. This event provided an opportunity for older people to come together, have a natter and a dance and share a delicious tea with hot food, sandwiches and of course tea and cake. DJ Michelle Killington (Empower from Within) got people up and dancing to music from ska, reggae, pop, soul, disco and rock n’ roll!. Support was also provided to people who needed assistance to attend the event . The event was opened by the Mayor of Lambeth, Cllr. Adrian Garden who also enjoyed a dance with the 40 people (aged 50-91) who attended. We have had wonderful feedback from, all have asked that for this activity to run as a regular event.We are applying to the THINC fund for £9,232 to run a bi-monthly Tea Rave for older persons and their supporters. The seven Tea Rave events will take place during January, March, May, July, September, November, with a special Christmas rave in December 2026. We will use our network of local organisations including Project Smith Community Connectors, Faiths Together in Lambeth, AgeUK Lambeth, Vida Walsh Centre, South East London MIND, ‘We Are 336’, DASL, Black Prince Trust, West Indian Association of Service Personnel (WASP), Lambeth Council, Lambeth Asian Centre, The Lambeth Elderly Association to invite people to the events. We regularly consult our visitors/attendees and understand loneliness, isolation and lack of opportunities to meet others is a major factor that affects older persons’ health and wellbeing. The Tea Rave events will provide a regular activity that people can look forward to, share stories, and make friends within a safe and warm environment. Reviewing the pilot project feedback , we understand there aren’t enough opportunities for older persons to gather even if they live close to each other, a lot of older persons use word of mouth to share information rather than digital media and the lack of local/timely information can be a key factor to someone becoming isolated. All of these can affect physical and mental health, impacting upon an individuals’ quality of life.The bi-monthly Tea Raves will provide a regular activity for 45 people aged 50-90 (and beyond!) to come together at St Vincent’s Brixton (an accessible space), with dancing/gentle exercise, food and fun. Each event will have a local provider for older persons available to chat about their services, also the St Vincent’s Brixton team will provide signposting to local services and networks for older persons. We will measure the success and impact of these events via consultation and feedback however we predict that the Tea Raves will support social inclusion, encourage older persons to meet/take part in gentle and fun physical activity, share information about issues that affect older adults, receive support and advice regarding local opportunities and services, these positively impacting upon community cohesion and individuals’ mental and physical health.

Traditional mental health and wellbeing services meet the needs of some but are often not flexible enough to meet the specific and complex needs of those who are the most marginalised, stigmatised and excluded in our society. As a result, young people often don’t engage with traditional mental health services. In the wake of the pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis. we have seen a large increase in the number of young people using our services. Many families are struggling to cope and have told us that this is a particularly hard time for them. Consequently, we are seeing an increasing demand for our mental health and wellbeing programmes. Young people turn to us because our consistent approach to working with the community provides them with a sense of stability in increasingly uncertain times. As our existing cohort learn that they can really trust us to be there for them, they recommend us to more of their peers and the demand for our programmes increases exponentially. We would therefore like to apply for £50,000 to further extend the Community and School strands of our existing Fit4Life work and increase the hours of our Mental Health and Wellbeing Officer in order to do so. The work will include: · Tulse Hill Estate Wellbeing sessions: Young people aged 16-25 get the chance to talk in confidence about any issues they like with trained counsellors and SMP staff. The majority of attendees are current or former gang members.· Cage Football on Tulse Hill Estate for 13 – 16 year olds: twice weekly football sessions with a free after-school meal targeted at those who have been identified as being a cause for concern and at risk of involvement in gangs. The cage is situated just 50 metres from where a young man, a former SMP participant, was murdered. We want to try and get people to feel safer on their estate and also develop a greater sense of community.· Fit 4 Life Programme at City Heights School: An activity-based wellbeing group for Year 9 students, designed to develop life skills to bring about positive changes.Additionally, we have noticed a marked upturn in the number of young people in the 5-7 age range presenting to us with a range of neurodivergent issues. We propose to use our Saturday Club to support them and their families. Our coaches will work with the group to promote structured learning through football. We will use football as a tool to support the development of gross motor skills, co-ordination and focus, ensuring children are learning physical literacy whilst having fun. Our coaches are trained to offer support for emotional regulation. For those children who become dysregulated during sessions, we will set up a separate pitch as a calming low-pressure environment. This helps them to manage their emotions and enables us to gradually reintegrate them into group activities. he St Matthew’s Project provides a safe and encouraging place where young people aged 3 – 25 can come together and take part in fun, challenging and high-quality sport and educational programmes. Most of our participants live in the Brixton Rush Common and Brixton Windrush wards of Lambeth which are within the top 10% Deprivation Deciles nationally for crime and living environment. 95% of our participants are from a BAME background. 68% are entitled to free school meals. As well as complex deprivation issues, the young people we work with also face health-related difficulties, including obesity, and a high prevalence of risk factors for mental health problems. Lambeth is amongst the top ten most dangerous boroughs in London. Crime levels, and in particular gang-related activity, are high in our target area. Brixton Windrush has the highest crime rate out of Lambeth's local and nearby wards and is the ward with the highest rate of drugs and possession of weapons offences. Ten young men known to us have been murdered since 2011. All our activities are free, which is very important as the vast majority of the young people we work with cannot otherwise afford to make use of the limited sporting facilities available within the local area.

Visitors can customise tote bags, paint their dream inventions, or meet creative professionals who blend science and art, from biomedical illustrators to engineers turned designers. The programme is about supporting and empowering them to see their potential, see through the lies and negative narrative, peel back the layers of limitation so they can step into their true identity and create incredible things that transform the NOW and FUTURE of Brixton.Some have been told that they are not smart enough, not good enough, won't make in life (and other negative and disempowering things) during their time in mainstream education and in other areas of life. It’s time to transform this and show our incredible young people what they are truly capable of.There are five pillars to this programme:Find Your Feet CIC will deliver their ‘Move & Make Creative-Wellbeing Labs’ in Brixton twice a month. Each month we add a ‘Healthy Choices Pop-Up’ in a hyper-local venue (barbershop/faith centres/estates etc). 3. 1000 Black Boys will deliver their Inspiration & Empowerment Events each quarter. These will include the events themed “Entrepreneurship & Creativity Unleashed” and “Your Mental Health Matters”. We will bring together successful people from across our network that are great role models and mentors for the young people. These are business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals, and creatives from different fields. We will focus on turning your ideas into ways of making money and building a business.We will also focus on how young people can secure career opportunities/work in a corporate environment if they want. Because of what many young people experience today we will talk about how they can avoid exploitation.Our mental health event will bring together people who have faced challenges in this area and overcame them. This will help remove the stigma around this topic and help young people overcome their mental health/wellbeing challenges.Those that speak will also be a source of encouragement and support for the parents/guardians.We will have organisations and businesses participate that can give young people access to opportunities. These events have been delivered successfully across London, now it’s time for Brixton.4. Family Therapy & Counselling Services – this will be provided by culturally competent experts through 1000 Black Boys.5. Financial wellbeing – we will run two short ‘Money & Mood’ workshops. Sessions help young people budget for healthy food, reduce money-stress, and access local cost-of-living support.The total amount £48,840.

Through weekly sessions, we bring people together to rest, create, and rebuild confidence using art, journaling, healthy cooking, and digital-skills mentoring. Every month, we also run a Carers Recharge Hub — a safe space for carers to rest, learn, and connect. Our approach is simple: we use creativity, community, and care to heal.As participants often say, “Angell Delight feels like a home outside the home.”Who Will BenefitThe project will engage around 120 people directly, generating over 600 attendances throughout the year. Our main beneficiaries are: Unpaid carers (many from Black and multi-ethnic backgrounds) Women who have lost confidence due to isolation or language barriers Families on low income Local volunteers seeking purpose, skills, and community We offer translation, digital mentoring, and inclusive activities for those whose first language is not English. Trash Gxng10 months ago The project ‘Heart of Brixton: Youth Creative Hub’ will transform a tired, unused office in one of Lambeth’s landmark community buildings into a vibrant, youth-designed creative hub. This will be a safe, inclusive, and accessible space where young people aged 14–25 can learn the digital and creative skills of the future — from podcasting and design to fashion and entrepreneurship.We have already secured match funding to install new carpets and a brand new podcast studio for young people. This grant will enable us to complete the renovation by: Knocking down two adjoining walls to open up a larger, flexible floor plan Installing two modular, foldable partition walls to create versatile learning zones Covering the first two months of rent while works are underway Purchasing 20 new ergonomic office chairs for safe, comfortable learning Installing an AC unit for year-round temperature control Adding a portable water fountain for clean drinking water access Installing CCTV for enhanced safety and safeguarding of young people and staff Providing a one-year licence for podcast and audio design software Who this project supports: The Heart of Brixton directly supports communities most affected by health and social inequalities in the borough. This includes: Black, Asian, and ethnic minority young people facing systemic barriers to the creative industries People on low incomes who often lack access to safe, well-equipped learning environments People living with disabilities, through new accessibility improvements and inclusive design Young people in or leaving care, who will be offered creative training, mentoring, and community connection By creating a safe, welcoming, and inspiring hub, this project supports the wider neighbourhood health collaboration in Brixton — improving wellbeing, confidence, and sense of belonging among groups most at risk of social isolation.What difference it will make for our community:The project will repurpose up to 700 sqft of underused office space into a youth-led cultural and creative facility. At least 150 young people each year will access the hub for training, co-design, and enterprise support. The project tackles the root causes of inequality by providing equitable access to creative and digital skills training. It promotes social inclusion, reduces isolation, and connects young people to new opportunities in Lambeth’s thriving creative sector. 93% of all young people we have supported stated that we provide them with a ‘safe space to express themselves’. The space will be co-designed by 10 local young people through Trash Gxng Academy’s youth-led design programme, embedding community voice at every stage.Why this project will succeed:Trash Gxng Academy is an established Lambeth-based non-profit that delivers creative skills programmes for underrepresented youth. We have a proven track record of supporting our communities in Lambeth with over 90% of our interventions supporting global majority young people and over 80% identify as being economically disadvantaged or low income households.With youth co-design, targeted inclusion of underrepresented groups, and a focus on health, safety, and wellbeing, The Heart of Brixton: Youth Creative Hub will become a beacon for collaborative regeneration.

Many residents find existing services inaccessible or not culturally aligned with their experiences. Williams Wellbeing bridges that gap by bringing free, local wellbeing sessions directly into the heart of Brixton, addressing mental, emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing under one welcoming roof.Over 12 months, the project will deliver free wellbeing workshops and events across trusted community venues in Brixton. Sessions will include:Children’s Wellbeing Clubs (ages 7–12) developing emotional literacy, mindfulness, and creative expression.Youth Circles (ages 13–25) providing safe spaces to explore relationships, digital balance, and confidence.Adult Wellbeing Workshops (ages 26–59) covering stress management, financial wellbeing, and co-parenting skills.Elder Connection Sessions (ages 60+) offering mindfulness, storytelling, and gentle movement to reduce isolation.Intergenerational Healing Events bringing families together through shared cultural celebrations and wellbeing days.Sessions will be led by qualified facilitators, therapists, and life coaches who reflect Brixton’s diverse communities, ensuring every participant feels seen, represented, and understood.To strengthen impact and accessibility, the project will introduce a structured referral pathway where GPs, schools, and local partners in Brixton can refer individuals and families who may benefit from wellbeing support. This framework will allow Williams Wellbeing to act as a bridge between statutory services and community-based wellbeing, ensuring no one falls through the gaps.The project is aimed at Black, Asian, and ethnic minority communities, people on low incomes, young people in or leaving care, unpaid carers, and those living with multiple health conditions. These groups often face barriers to traditional wellbeing or mental health services. By creating accessible, stigma-free spaces within Brixton, we empower residents to prioritise their wellbeing, build resilience, and form lasting support networks.We aim to reach more than 250 Brixton residents in the first year, with outcomes used to support the creation of a permanent Brixton Wellbeing Hub as a long-term pillar of community support. The £15,000 will cover venue hire, facilitators, materials, refreshments, outreach, and evaluation, ensuring sessions remain free and accessible to those who need them most. We provide free, compassionate home cleaning, companionship, essential deliveries, and community signposting for residents who feel invisible — particularly single parents, elderly people living alone, and those facing mental health challenges.This is not just cleaning. It’s dignity, hope, opportunity, and human connection.One local woman battling depression said:“I live alone. I suffer with depression. I just need someone non-judgemental to help me.”After receiving support, she began smiling again, making plans, and reconnecting with life. High Phunk11 months ago Highphunk is a dynamic, volunteer-led collective based in Brixton, Lambeth, committed to uplifting and celebrating neurodivergent individuals through creativity, community, and inclusion. Founded by a close-knit team of eight friends, many of us proudly neurodivergent ourselves. Our shared vision is simple but powerful: to create safe, expressive spaces where people with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, learning differences, and other forms of neurodivergence can be seen, heard, and celebrated. We believe that every individual has something valuable to contribute. At Highphunk, we strive to showcase the talents, voices, and creative energy of those who are too often overlooked or misunderstood in conventional settings. Neurodivergent people frequently face social isolation, stigma, and limited access to inclusive cultural or artistic opportunities. Traditional creative spaces can feel overwhelming or inaccessible, leaving many feeling disconnected from their community and stifled in their self-expression. Highphunk exists to challenge that status quo. We offer an alternative: vibrant, sensory-considerate, and welcoming environments where neurodivergent individuals of all ages can engage in music, art, dance, spoken word, storytelling, and more. Our events are co-created with the community and designed to nurture self-esteem, joy, and connection.
