Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) 2025

The Lambeth Health and Wellbeing Board is consulting on its Draft Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) 2025. The PNA is a statutory report that reviews the current provision of pharmaceutical services across the borough and assesses whether these services are sufficient to meet the health needs of the local population. It also identifies potential gaps or areas for improvement in how pharmacy services are delivered now and in the future.

Pharmaceutical services are services provided by community pharmacies. These include dispensing medicines and appliances on prescription, selling medicines to the public, providing health and wellbeing advice, and disposing of waste medicines safely.

The PNA is updated every three years and is used by NHS leaders and other healthcare commissioners to inform decisions about:

• Applications to open new pharmacies or relocate existing ones
• The commissioning of new or enhanced services through community pharmacies
• Strategic planning to ensure equitable access to pharmaceutical services across Lambeth

Who is this consultation for?

The consultation is open to any individual who wishes to comment. It is primarily aimed at:

• Organisations involved in the commissioning, delivery, or oversight of pharmaceutical services
• NHS bodies such as NHS England and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs)
• Health and social care professionals
• Patient groups and community and voluntary sector groups with an interest in pharmaceutical services provision

Members of the public and pharmacy providers were consulted via a survey as part of the development of the PNA. Insights from this engagement are included in the PNA document.

How to take part

We invite you to review the Draft Lambeth Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment 2025 and complete a short consultation survey to provide your feedback. The survey asks about your views on the accuracy of the report and the degree to which you agree with the findings. We appreciate that the document is long and technical, so we have provided an executive summary as well as the Plain English summary.

Feedback from this consultation will help shape the final PNA, which will be published on 01 October 2025.

The consultation is open from 21 May 2025 to 21 July 2025.
