Phase 3

1 January 2024 - 31 May 2025

Phase 3: Brockwell Park Gardens to Christchurch Road (A205)

In Phase 3 of the Cycleway 48 Healthy Route, improvements will be made to junctions and a crossing at the following locations to make it easier and safer to walk, wheel and cycle:

  • Brockwell Park Gardens
  • High Trees
  • Roycroft Close
  • A205 crossing (Transport for London led)

Brockwell Park Gardens

Proposed improvements:

  • Conversion of the existing raised zebra crossing on Norwood Road to a raised parallel crossing (for pedestrians and cyclists), served by a widened shared use footway either side. This will enable people cycling along Norwood Road to safely turn into Brockwell Park Gardens.
  • Raised continuous footway across the minor road junction (Brockwell Park Gardens) to make it easier for pedestrians to cross and to make pedestrian priority explicit, reduce motor vehicle speeds entering and exiting the minor road and enable people cycling to join the cycleway safely.
  • Buff-coloured blister tactile paving either side of the crossing point, to guide visually impaired pedestrians when crossing the Brockwell Park Gardens junction
  • No waiting at any time restrictions removed from continuous footway area
  • Cycle parking
  • Biodiverse planting area
