Jonathan and Orsett Street (NHX)

Redevelopment site comprising 2 parcels of land, one situated on Jonathan Street and the other on Orsett Street. The redevelopment entails the demolition of the existing Carmelita Centre to deliver c.67 homes and a new community centre. 29 affordable homes are to be delivered on Jonathan Street (split 19 social rented and 10 shared ownership) along with a new community centre on the ground floor and 38 private homes are being provided on Orsett Street.

The scheme received a resolution to grant in November 2021 and the S106 was signed in September 2023.

Carmelita Centre

The existing Carmelita Centre has been closed due to fire safety issues and works to convert a nearby archway to provide a temporary community centre for the Vauxhall Gardens Estate Residents and Tenants Association (VGERTA) was approved in March 24. Works to convert and ‘fit out’ the archway are due to commence in November 2024 with completion expected by March 25. The arch will be occupied by VGERTA until the completion of the new community centre, delivered by the Development Partner.

What stage is the project in?

The Council has now appointed Vistry Group as the Development Partner for Jonathan and Orsett Street.

The procurement process for a Development Partner started in January 2025.
