Brixton Day and Night: a strategy for public spaces and community life
Help shape the future of Brixton Town Centre
Brixton Day and Night is a new strategy Lambeth Council have launched to improve public spaces within the town centre. The focus of this project will be working with the community to understand how Brixton Town Centre can better meet their needs.
The strategy will identify public space improvements that build on Brixton’s reputation as one of London’s most dynamic and celebrated town centres by preserving its character, and making it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone to use.
The council has appointed muf architecture/art, alongside local organisations including Team GJC, The Brixton Recollectors and Max Roach Adventure Playground, to work with the community to prepare the strategy. Throughout the project the team will invite local people to help shape the future of the town centre’s streets, squares and green areas.
Over the past few months, we have held interviews, walkabouts, workshops and one-to-one conversations with Brixton residents, community groups and businesses to understand the challenges and opportunities facing Brixton Town Centre.
We also ran a Phase 1 of Brixton Day and Night survey during December-January, to capture how you use Brixton Town Centre and where you think it should be improved.
We have used this initial information to establish a baseline understanding of the town centre as it is currently, before developing proposals for the future in the next project phase.
We will be sharing our findings and initial ideas at upcoming engagement events, advertised below.
If you have any questions, please contact Sophie Williams, Neighbourhood Regeneration Manager at swilliams6@lambeth.gov.uk.

Brixton Day and Night is a new strategy Lambeth Council has launched to improve public spaces within the town centre. This project focuses on working with the community to understand how Brixton Town Centre can better meet their needs.
Muf art/architecture have been appointed to lead the design team, and over the past few months have held interviews, walkabouts, workshops and one-to-one conversations with Brixton residents, community groups and businesses to understand the challenges and opportunities facing Brixton Town Centre.
We are now hosting drop-in sessions where we will be sharing what we have heard about the town centre’s streets, squares and green areas from those who live and work in Brixton, alongside early ideas for future improvements to these public spaces. This will be an opportunity to get your feedback on the emerging ideas before we develop design proposals.
