Brixton Healing Circles – Art, Food & Digital Empowerment for Carers

From "THINC Fund: Powering Ideas for a Healthier Brixton"

Go to the project

Brixton Healing Circles is a year-long wellbeing and inclusion project designed to support carers, women, and families across Brixton. Through weekly sessions, we bring people together to rest, create, and rebuild confidence using art, journaling, healthy cooking, and digital-skills mentoring. Every month, we also run a Carers Recharge Hub — a safe space for carers to rest, learn, and connect. Our approach is simple: we use creativity, community, and care to heal.As participants often say, “Angell Delight feels like a home outside the home.”

Who Will Benefit

The project will engage around 120 people directly, generating over 600 attendances throughout the year.

Our main beneficiaries are:

  • Unpaid carers (many from Black and multi-ethnic backgrounds)
  • Women who have lost confidence due to isolation or language barriers
  • Families on low income
  • Local volunteers seeking purpose, skills, and community

We offer translation, digital mentoring, and inclusive activities for those whose first language is not English.

Why This Matters

Many carers in Brixton are emotionally and physically exhausted. They spend years giving — but rarely receive rest or recognition. Angell Delight fills that gap. We combine mental wellbeing, community connection, and creativity in one welcoming space. Every circle, meal, and art session helps people reconnect with themselves and others. Our work directly supports Lambeth’s goals around health, inclusion, resilience, and equity.

How We Meet THINC Priorities

  • Health & Wellbeing: Regular creative and cooking sessions reduce stress, loneliness, and anxiety.
  • Inclusion: Sessions are accessible for people with low literacy or English barriers; translation and visual activities ensure everyone belongs.
  • Community Capacity: Volunteers gain real training (DBS, food hygiene, digital mentoring), building sustainable leadership.
  • Environment: We reuse art supplies, cook sustainably, and partner with local food distributors to reduce waste.

Who Runs the Project

The programme will be led by Chinyere Mary Ekenachi, founder of Angell Delight, with co-facilitators supporting creative and digital sessions.

All facilitators are experienced in community wellbeing, art therapy, and inclusion. A team of 10–13 volunteers will assist with cooking, translation, and mentoring.

We also collaborate with local Brixton partners and carers’ networks for outreach and referrals.

Supporting Information

We have created a mini-film using Canva

“Home Outside Home – The Angell Delight Story.”

It shows the real life of our centre — we’re family. Angell Delight is a small charity with a big heart.”

Sustainability & Legacy

After the grant, Angell Delight will sustain activities through small local funds, venue partnerships, and volunteer-led circles.

The kitchen improvements and volunteer training will strengthen our long-term capacity. We aim to continue offering a safe, creative space where everyone — carers, women, and families — feels they belong.
