Why are we preparing a new Local Plan?
The council adopted its Local Plan in 2021. Since then, it has helped guide decisions about where new homes, jobs, transport and community facilities should be delivered, while protecting and improving the borough’s environment.
The council is required to keep its Local Plan up to date. There have also been important changes to the planning system, including new rules that mean Local Plans must be prepared more quickly.
We are now preparing a new Local Plan that will build on Lambeth’s strengths, respond to future challenges and opportunities, and help create a shared vision for the borough’s future.
What is a Local Plan?
A Local Plan sets out how places across the borough should grow and change over time
It provides a long-term vision for Lambeth’s future. It helps answer important questions about where development should take place, what kinds of places we want to create, and how growth can benefit local communities.
Once adopted, the new Lambeth Local Plan helps guide decisions on planning applications and support investment in infrastructure and services.
